Beyond Correlation:
Untangling the Health Impact of Air Pollution with Multiple Regression Analysis
28 October 2026 | 11:00 AM CET | In English
According to the European Environment Agency, over 90% of Europeans living in urban areas are exposed to PM2.5 and ozone levels exceeding WHO guideline values.
For NO₂ (nitrogen dioxide), the figure exceeds 80%.
But do all pollutants have the same impact on our health?
How can we distinguish the contribution of each pollutant when their concentrations often change together?
Join our experts on 28 October 2026 for a webinar dedicated to multiple regression analysis.
A pressing and sensitive issue that requires the right analytical tools.
Emissions have decreased over recent decades, yet exposure levels remain above WHO guidelines for much of the urban population.
🔴 Through multiple regression analysis, we will explore how different pollutants contribute to the calculation of the Health Impact Score, and how their relative contributions differ when examining increases in hospital admissions and cardiovascular cases.
When we observe a relationship between air pollutants and health outcomes, correlation analysis allows us to explore it, while multiple regression helps us investigate the contribution of individual pollutants, including fine particulate matter, inhalable particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, ozone and sulphur dioxide.
✅ Correlation shows us when two variables change together. Regression helps us understand the contribution of each factor while accounting for the others.
💡 During the webinar, we will use this approach to investigate how different pollutants contribute to the Health Impact Score.
Why is understanding regression analysis so important?
🎯 Regression is one of the foundations of statistical analysis. It allows us to investigate the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables, with the aim of developing a mathematical model that represents this relationship as accurately as possible.
Working through a concrete example helps you develop the right analytical intuition: which variables to include, how to interpret coefficients and what precautions to take before drawing conclusions.
Agenda
Together, we will explore how to:
✅ Health and Air Pollution: Pollutants, Air Quality Index and Health Impact Score.
✅ From Correlation Matrix to Multiple Regression: Explore with correlation, understand with regression.
✅ Practical Demonstration with Statistics for Data Analysis.
⭐ BONUS: You'll have the opportunity to get answers to your specific questions from experts with in-depth knowledge of Statistics for Data Analysis.
This webinar is for you if:
-
You work in environmental monitoring, healthcare, psychological or socioeconomic research, or data analysis within the public sector.
-
You already use descriptive statistics or correlation analysis and want to understand how regression can provide a more comprehensive interpretation.
-
You want to see regression analysis applied to a topical issue that affects us all and has significant implications for society.
-
You want to turn statistical results into clearer, more robust and defensible research conclusions.
